    On Constant Gaps for the Two-way Gaussian Interference Channel

    We introduce the two-way Gaussian interference channel in which there are four nodes with four independent messages: two-messages to be transmitted over a Gaussian interference channel in the \rightarrow direction, simultaneously with two-messages to be transmitted over an interference channel (in-band, full-duplex) in the \leftarrow direction. In such a two-way network, all nodes are transmitters and receivers of messages, allowing them to adapt current channel inputs to previously received channel outputs. We propose two new outer bounds on the symmetric sum-rate for the two-way Gaussian interference channel with complex channel gains: one under full adaptation (all 4 nodes are permitted to adapt inputs to previous outputs), and one under partial adaptation (only 2 nodes are permitted to adapt, the other 2 are restricted). We show that simple non-adaptive schemes such as the Han and Kobayashi scheme, where inputs are functions of messages only and not past outputs, utilized in each direction are sufficient to achieve within a constant gap of these fully or partially adaptive outer bounds for all channel regimes.Comment: presented at 50th Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing, Monticello, IL, October 201

    Table Search Using a Deep Contextualized Language Model

    Pretrained contextualized language models such as BERT have achieved impressive results on various natural language processing benchmarks. Benefiting from multiple pretraining tasks and large scale training corpora, pretrained models can capture complex syntactic word relations. In this paper, we use the deep contextualized language model BERT for the task of ad hoc table retrieval. We investigate how to encode table content considering the table structure and input length limit of BERT. We also propose an approach that incorporates features from prior literature on table retrieval and jointly trains them with BERT. In experiments on public datasets, we show that our best approach can outperform the previous state-of-the-art method and BERT baselines with a large margin under different evaluation metrics.Comment: Accepted at SIGIR 2020 (Long

    A dual RF-receiver preceded by discrete-step attenuators is implemented in 65nm CMOS and operates from 0.3– 1.0 GHz. The noise of the receivers is reduced by cross-correlating the two receiver outputs in the digital baseband, allowing attenuation of the RF input signal to increase linearity. With this technique a displayed average noise level below -169 dBm/Hz is obtained with +25 dBm IIP3, giving a spurious-free dynamic range of 89 dB in 1 MHz resolution bandwidth

    The Effect of Adoptive Immunotherapy after Percutaneous Microwave Ablation in Recurrent Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients with Hepatitis B: A Preliminary Study

    To observe the influence of adoptive immunotherapy combination with percutaneous microwave ablation (PMWA) on peripheral blood examination, hepatic function examination and serum alpha fetoprotein (AFP) in recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with hepatitis B. Fourteen recurrent HCC patients with 31 lesions (D≤6.0cm, fewer than four tumors) were treated with radical PMWA and continuous four courses of adoptive immunotherapy, which were administrated at 1, 2, 3 and 4 months after PMWA, respectively. Under sonographic guidance, tumor lysate-pulsed DCs (1ml) were injected into bilateral groin lymph nodes at 9th day, while CTL (25ml) were injected into the abdominal cavity at 11th day and CIK (100ml) was infused intravenously at 14th day after hemospasis in one course of treatment, respectively. Peripheral blood examination, serum AFP and hepatic function were reviewed 1, 3, 6 months after adoptive immunotherapy. The number of white blood cell (WBC), lymphocyte (LYM), serum albumin (ALB) and cholinesterase (CHE) were detected increase significantly at 3 and 6 months after therapy compared to pre-therapy (p0.05). Platelet (PLT) was detected increased significantly at 6 months after therapy (p0.05) compared to pre-therapy. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were detected decreased significantly at 1, 3 and 6 months after therapy (p0.05). As to serum AFP, it was detected decreased gradually, while there was no difference during the follow-up (6-16 months). No severe adverse effects were observed. Adoptive immunotherapy prescribed soon after PMWA was safe and ameliorated the laboratory examination and the immunity status of recurrent HCC patients, which may improve the prognosis

    Falling weight impact test of a new-type flexible rock-shed

    A new concept of a flexible rock-shed is presented for protection of the railway from falling rocks. The flexible rock-shed is made of flexible nets connected by specific spring spacer bars to an array of reinforced concrete portable frames which are linked by a longitudinal steel tube truss. To evaluate the performance of the flexible rock-shed, experimental and numerical studies are carried out in the present study. Impact tests are conducted on a full-scale partial model of the prototype structure when it is subjected to a falling block of 340 kg. The impact time interval, maximum deflection of the flexible net, tensile forces in the supporting ropes, and axial strains of spring spacer bars are recorded. To further examine the dynamic behavior of the flexible rock-shed, numerical simulations are also carried out by using the explicit finite element code ANSYS/LS-DYNA. It is found that the numerical results coincide well with the experimental data and both the numerical and experimental studies reveal that the structure can withstand impact energy of 50 kJ with all the materials working in the elastic range. The structural details are improved and the basis for the design and construction of similar structures in the future is provided

    Controllable Multi-Objective Re-ranking with Policy Hypernetworks

    Multi-stage ranking pipelines have become widely used strategies in modern recommender systems, where the final stage aims to return a ranked list of items that balances a number of requirements such as user preference, diversity, novelty etc. Linear scalarization is arguably the most widely used technique to merge multiple requirements into one optimization objective, by summing up the requirements with certain preference weights. Existing final-stage ranking methods often adopt a static model where the preference weights are determined during offline training and kept unchanged during online serving. Whenever a modification of the preference weights is needed, the model has to be re-trained, which is time and resources inefficient. Meanwhile, the most appropriate weights may vary greatly for different groups of targeting users or at different time periods (e.g., during holiday promotions). In this paper, we propose a framework called controllable multi-objective re-ranking (CMR) which incorporates a hypernetwork to generate parameters for a re-ranking model according to different preference weights. In this way, CMR is enabled to adapt the preference weights according to the environment changes in an online manner, without retraining the models. Moreover, we classify practical business-oriented tasks into four main categories and seamlessly incorporate them in a new proposed re-ranking model based on an Actor-Evaluator framework, which serves as a reliable real-world testbed for CMR. Offline experiments based on the dataset collected from Taobao App showed that CMR improved several popular re-ranking models by using them as underlying models. Online A/B tests also demonstrated the effectiveness and trustworthiness of CMR

    SoccerNet-Tracking: Multiple Object Tracking Dataset and Benchmark in Soccer Videos

    Tracking objects in soccer videos is extremely important to gather both player and team statistics, whether it is to estimate the total distance run, the ball possession or the team formation. Video processing can help automating the extraction of those information, without the need of any invasive sensor, hence applicable to any team on any stadium. Yet, the availability of datasets to train learnable models and benchmarks to evaluate methods on a common testbed is very limited. In this work, we propose a novel dataset for multiple object tracking composed of 200 sequences of 30s each, representative of challenging soccer scenarios, and a complete 45-minutes half-time for long-term tracking. The dataset is fully annotated with bounding boxes and tracklet IDs, enabling the training of MOT baselines in the soccer domain and a full benchmarking of those methods on our segregated challenge sets. Our analysis shows that multiple player, referee and ball tracking in soccer videos is far from being solved, with several improvement required in case of fast motion or in scenarios of severe occlusion.Comment: Paper accepted for the CVsports workshop at CVPR2022.     Removal of Contaminants from Oracle Bones During Sample Pretreatment

    Animal bones and tortoise shells were used for divination by the Chinese royal family during the Shang Dynasty (similar to w16th-11th century BC), and the divination results were recorded as inscriptions on oracle bones and shells, which are very valuable cultural remains and record many important events in the Shang Dynasty period. Thus, radiocarbon dating of oracle bones was used to build a precise chronology of the late Shang Dynasty. Due to their original burial conditions and the fact that in subsequent decades the pieces were traded or archived in museums, oracle bones are expected to be contaminated with exogenous materials from the environment and the conservation process. During dating, we found that some samples were contaminated by conservation chemical reagents. The contaminated samples were purified by removing exogenous chemicals with a series of organic solvents, in a method modified from Bruhn et al. (2001).
